Awofeso, 9 Nigerians listed among ‘Top 100’ Africa travel experts

Travelstart, one of the most popular online booking website for flights, hotels, car rentals and vacation packages in the world, has named four individuals  and six organisations from Nigeria in its list of ‘100 Travel Experts on Twitter’.

The list includes Africapoint, Africa Travel Tips, Africa Geographic, Capetown Tourism, Afro Tourism, Kenya Tourism, Tourism Tanzania, Luxury Africa Travel, Discover Africa Group, among other continental heavyweights in the travel and tourism sector.

Pelu Awofeso, travel journalist and winner of the CNN/Multichoice Africa Journalists Awards in the tourism category; Folarin Kolawole, adventure blogger; Lape Soetan, lifestyle blogger; Lola Akerstrom, a Nigerian in the Diaspora who has written for major international publications are the Nigerians in the category. All of them have deployed social media platforms to promote domestic tourism.

While the organizations are: @Naijatreks, @waka_about, 9ja_travel, @TravelNextDoor, @cometonigeria, @Fly_Naija  and @MyDNigeria.

“The world of travel has become popular on social media. Many people now have unvarying access to travel information and tips for different destinations in the world,” read the introduction to the published list.

“There are many Africa travel experts who tweet regularly, offering tips and advice on travel. They love sharing their travel experiences about best places they have visited with their followers.”

“So whether you’re just looking for travel tips, best destinations to visit for a vacation in Africa and other continents or if you are looking for people to connect with for travel information to guide you on your next holiday, you should visit Twitter to keep you in the know.”

In an interview with TheCable, Awofeso expressed delight with making the list, saying it would help to boost tourism in the country.

“This list is well-timed, especially as it comes at a time when Nigeria is trying hard to promote domestic tourism.”
