Taiwo Awoniyi, the Nigerian striker, has been nominated for the player of the month for August award by the English Premier League (EPL).

The nominees were announced in a statement on Thursday, with the winner to be revealed on September 15.

The 25-year-old Nottingham Forest striker is one of a six-man shortlist announced by the Premier League that includes Rodri of Manchester City and James Maddison of Tottenham.

Others include Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, Karl Mitoma of Brighton, and Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United.

Awoniyi started the season with a bang, scoring in three consecutive matches while also providing an assist.

He was instrumental in Nottingham Forest securing six points from its opening four matches of the new season.

He broke Forest’s scoring streak record of seven consecutive matches that has stood since 1995.

He is also the third African footballer to achieve the scoring feat.

The EA Sports player of the month award winner is selected based on a combination of public votes and a panel of football experts.

Voting closes at 12 pm on September 11.
