Taiwo Awoniyi in aerial collision with Joe Whitworth, the Exeter goalkeeper.
Taiwo Awoniyi has suffered a broken nose while starring for Nottingham Forest in their English FA Cup fourth-round win over Exeter City on Tuesday night.
The 27-year-old was stretchered off the pitch in the first half of extra-time after a nasty collision with Joe Whitworth, Exeter City goalkeeper.
Awoniyi had scored the second goal that put Nottingham Forest in the lead for the first time in the lively FA Cup encounter that ended 2-2 after extra-time, with Exeter City finishing the match with ten men following an 87th-minute red card. The League One side eventually succumbed to defeat 4-2 after a penalty shootout at their St. James Park stadium.
Awoniyi scored only his second goal of the season in the 37th minute when the bulky striker collected a pass with his back to goal, creating space for a low shot into the bottom far corner that left the Whitworth rooted to the spot.

The home side forced extra time when Awoniyi went into the air to challenge for a cross with Whitworth, who accidentally caught him with an elbow.
The clash left Awoniyi with a bloodied nose, and the striker received on-field treatment for 11 minutes before he was stretchered off.
The high-flying English Premier League (EPL) club later announced on its X handle that Nuno Espirito Santo, the club’s coach, confirmed Awoniyi’s injury and wished him a speedy recovery.

“Nuno [Espirito Santo] has confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi sustained a broken nose following an aerial collision in tonight’s cup tie,” the tweet reads.
Awoniyi has found playing time difficult this season due to a combination of injuries and the form of Chris Woods, the club’s main striker. He has started only five matches in all competitions.
