Mohammed Badaru, minister of defence, says Nigeria will increase its oil output to about 2.3 million barrels per day (bpd) by June 2025.
Badaru spoke on Wednesday when he visited the headquarters of the Nigerian army division six in Port Harcourt.
The minister said he went through the detailed plans of the division to boost oil production in the Niger Delta.
He said the plans were approved by the chief of defence staff and “it is work in progress”.
“I don’t believe we will have to tell you what we are doing but certainly, you have seen the progress so far,” Badaru said.
“The oil production has continued to increase and I assure you, before the end of the year, we will see tremendous increase in oil production in this country.
“I believe we are now between 1.6 million barrels per day (bpd) to 1.7 million bpd as against 1.4 million bpd that we were on.”
Badaru said by the end of the year, the country is expected to be producing around 1.9 million bpd to 2 million bpd.
“By the middle of next year, we will be producing around 2.3 million bpd,” Badaru said.
The minister said the production target is achievable with the “arrangement I have seen in place and with the efforts the armed forces are putting [in], with the support of the chief of defence staff, and the service chiefs”.
