Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi governor, says 97 corpses have been recovered, following the recent boat mishap in the state.

Bagudu disclosed this when members of the house of representatives paid a condolence visit to the state.

On May 26, a boat carrying passengers from Lokon Minna, Niger state, capsized in Warrah, Ngaski LGA in Kebbi.

Bagudu, who was represented by Babale Umar-Yauri, secretary to the state governor, said the recovered bodies had been buried.

He appreciated the members for their support in ensuring that safety is restored to the nation’s waterways.

He also commended the house of representatives for the condolence visit, and love for the people of Kebbi state.

In his remarks, Ahmed Wase, deputy speaker, called for collective efforts to prevent such mishaps in the country.

“As leaders, all hands must be on deck to evolve correct, effective, and permanent solution to mishaps involving boats and canoes on the waterways,” he said.

“As members, we shall examine the causes of recurring maritime transport accidents with a view to coming up with measures and avoid recurrence of mishaps.

“It is a colossal loss not only to Kebbi but the entire country. It is our fervent prayers that Allah will give their families the fortitude to bear the loss.”
