Two worshippers were killed on Saturday when bandits attacked a mosque during Ramadan prayer (Taraweeh) in Mairuwa village, Faskari LGA of Katsina.
Confirming the attack to TheCable on Sunday, Abubakar Aliyu, police spokesperson in Katsina, said the incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m.
Aliyu said the bandits attacked the mosque and also attempted to abduct residents but were resisted by the people.
“What happened was that the bandits attacked the village under Faskari local government around 8:35 pm yesterday. You know that is the time the Muslim faithful usually hold their Taraweeh prayer,” he said.

“When they attacked, they attacked with the intention to kidnap people but they met some level of resistance which made them to start shooting and killed two persons.”
The police spokesperson said the operatives of the command alongside a local security outfit deployed to the location were able to rescue the worshippers abducted by the bandits.
“The police command in collaboration with the Katsina community watch corps and the local vigilante engaged the bandits, thereby rescuing the kidnap victims,” he added.
