Armed bandits have killed six members of a local vigilante group in Kebbi.
According to Zagazola Makama, the victims were ambushed on Friday while tracking down the bandits following a cattle rustling incident in Dan Tulu and Rusakde villages, Arewa LGA of Kebbi.
The bandits had attacked the communities on Thursday afternoon and made away with livestock, prompting the vigilantes to go after them.
However, the bandits ambushed the pursuing vigilantes the following night and killed them at Matankari Forest.

The troops of the Nigerian Army, the police and other vigilantes later recovered the remains of the victims.
Nafiu Abubakar, Kebbi police spokesperson, could not immediately be reached to confirm the attack.
In recent months, Kebbi has recorded attacks by bandits on local authorities.

In January, two police officers were killed during a gun duel with hoodlums suspected to be Lakurawa bandits.
A month later, Umar Namashaya Diggi, former chairman of Kalgo LGA in Kebbi state, was declared missing following an attack by bandits along the Birnin Kebbi-Diggi road.
