Bandits kill vigilantes in attack on two Katsina LGAs

Armed bandits have killed an unconfirmed number of vigilantes in Katsina state.

The vigilantes were killed after bandits carried out two separate attacks on security groups in Faskari and Matazu LGAs on Friday evening.

The first ambush reportedly targeted vigilantes who were providing security for farmers harvesting crops near Ungwar Kafa.

On the same evening, another group of bandits attacked vigilante officers from Matazu LGA who were travelling from Gwarjo to Yalwa.

Gambo Isah, state police spokesperson, could not immediately be reached to confirm the attack.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Dikko Radda, Katsina governor, praised the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen operatives.

“Their sacrifice in service to Katsina will never be forgotten,” Ibrahim Mohammed, the governor’s spokesperson, quoted Radda as saying.

Radda commended the response of security forces, including the police and military personnel, who arrived at the scene and repelled the attackers.

“Our security operatives displayed exceptional courage and coordination, and their prompt action undoubtedly saved many lives and protected our hardworking farmers,” the governor said.

Radda reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring security and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities.

The governor said the affected areas remain under close surveillance with efforts ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
