The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano says the demolition of “illegal structures” by Abba Yusuf, governor of the state, is barbaric.

On Friday, a task force set up by the governor commenced the demolition of structures believed to be illegally erected on properties belonging to the government.

The task force commenced the exercise inside the Kano race course (Filin Sukuwa), after which Yusuf also directed all land developers at the Hajj camp to stop ongoing construction immediately.

He added that the camp has been debased by Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration.

Yusuf said a judicial commission of inquiry would be set up in the coming days to ensure that all perpetrators alongside accomplices are brought to justice.

Reacting to the development in a statement on Tuesday, the Kano APC said the governor’s actions were crippling businesses.

Shehu Maigari, the APC state deputy chairman, said the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) administration had paralysed Kano and was threatening its position as the commercial seat of northern Nigeria.

“This barbaric and wanton destruction of the people’s means of livelihood by the state government calls for serious prayers by all well-meaning persons, as the people are now counting their losses in billions of naira,” Maigari said.

“Kano being a megacity and the commercial nerve centre of the northern region and other West African countries, is now facing a serious calamity from the NNPP-led administration.”

Maigari asked affected persons to seek legal redress for damages and losses incurred.

He urged parents and guardians in the state to caution their wards on the dangers of them being used as “agents of destruction by the NNPP-led administration”.

The APC also asked security agencies in the state to “step up actions” that will restore the people’s confidence in the government and assured residents of the party’s support and concern in this “trying period”.
