Barkindo welcomes new Saudi prince to OPEC

Mohammad Barkindo, OPEC secretary-general, has congratulated Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud on his appointment as the new crown prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He welcomed the prince to OPEC following the announcement of “the decision in a Royal Decree by King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques”.

According to OPEC secretariat, Barkindo offered his sincere congratulations, along with those of the staff of the OPEC Secretariat in Vienna, on the auspicious appointment.

“He said that he had no doubt that the new Crown Prince, in supporting King Salman, would continue the development and renaissance of the Kingdom through Saudi Vision 2030 and achieve great success in serving his country,” the statement read.

“May Allah grant you wisdom, courage and strength to carry out the heavy obligations and duties of this high position, and guide you always on the most propitious path,” Barkindo was quoted to have said.

Barkindo also thanked Prince Mohammed for his continued engagement with, and support of OPEC.

He said that working with HE Khalid al-Falih of Saudi Arabia, the kingdom’s minister of energy, industry and mineral resources and the current OPEC President, had underlined to him the important role that the crown prince played in the decisions taken by OPEC and non-OPEC at the end of last year, and most recently in May 2017 through the extension of the “Declaration of Cooperation”.

The secretary-general also conveyed his sincere best wishes on the joyful occasion of Eid Al-Fitr Al-Mubarak, and his hopes that this special day brings peace, happiness and prosperity to everyone.
