The all-ladies Bullet Energy drink Women’s Basiwtba tournament has been confirmed to begin on March 11 in Asaba, Delta state.

The competition, which was initially slated for February, will run till March 17.

The organisers said on Thursday that all the invited teams have confirmed participation.

“We have taken into consideration all national and international events scheduled for that period before settling for the date,” Sam Oguche, the organiser who is a former D’Tigers player.

“We had planned for February but had to move it forward after realising that the general election would disrupt the plan. We hope to give the players the quality of competition they deserve.”

The competition venue, it is understood, is in top shape having been recently used for the National Sports Festival in December.

The winners’ cash prize has been raised by 100 per cent.

The overall winner would take home N2 million, up from N1 million handed to the winner at the last edition in November in Lagos.

The runner-up in Asaba will go home with N1 million and the third-placed team will earn N500,000.

The Bullet Energy drink basketball tournament began as a junior camp for young players in Onitsha, Anambra state in 2014.

Kwara Falcons won the men’s trophy in Lagos while the First Bank women won in their category.

The competition had helped prepare Kwara Falcons for the Nigeria Basketball Federation’s playoffs where the Ilorin-based team beat seven others in the event that began only two days after the Bullet tournament.

The Asaba competition would help build up the women’s teams ahead of the national league billed for the second quarter of the year.
