The Bauchi state government says it is investigating the maltreatment of a person with disability (PWD) by security operatives during the nationwide protest against hunger.
A video of the incident had made the round on social media.
In a statement, Mukhtar Mohammed, special adviser on media and publicity to Bala Mohammed, governor of the state, said the welfare and rights of all citizens, especially vulnerable groups, are important to the administration.
“We wish to categorically state that the Bauchi State Government under the inspirational leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed does not condone any form of violence or misconduct by law enforcement officers attached to the Government House or any government personnel,” the statement reads.

Mohammed added that the government will initiate a thorough investigation into the incident to establish the facts.
He said persons found culpable will be dealt with and that the state government is committed to upholding the principles of justice, fairness and respect for human rights.
He urged the public to remain calm and abide by the rules guiding the nationwide protests.
