The Bauchi state government says it has addressed complaints of irregular feeding of COVID-19 patients at isolation centres.
One Buhari Tafida, who claimed to be a patient at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital isolation centre, had posted a tweet on Tuesday that the patients were not fed until 8pm.
In a statement, Lawal Muazu, special adviser to the governor on new media, said the delay in providing food to the patients was not deliberate.
“The attention of Bauchi State Government has been drawn to delay in providing meals for coronavirus patients at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi. The government has since taken action and addressed the issue immediately,” he said.

“The issue of delay in providing meals for the patients was never deliberate and is regretted. One of the patients confirmed that the issue has been addressed and they are being treated well at the hospital.
“Bauchi State Government vows to continue to consider constructive criticism in order to improve on the delivery of it’s services to the good people of the state especially at this critical period of coronavirus.
“Despite the increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state, the state government is working round the clock and assiduously to avert and tackle the further spread of the virus.”

Earlier in the day, some COVID-19 patients staged a protest at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe destroying some equipment in their ward.
The patients, who were under quarantine, were said to have complained of ill treatment.
