Bayelsa airport ready for commercial flights, says Diri

Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, says the state airport is ready for commercial flights.

He said this on Wednesday during a visit to the airport facility.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had delayed the certification of the airport due to “absence of adequate perimeter fencing at the facility.”

Diri said he is confident that the aviation authorities will be satisfied with the airport and grant license.

The airport is waiting for the final certification by NCAA’s visitation team expected on March 30, 2021.

“I have spent over one year on this project after taking over from my predecessor in office, senator Seriake Dickson, who initiated it,” the governor was quoted to have said by NAN.

“What we are doing now is dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s. So far, I think every requirement is on the ground.

“I believe when the inspection teams from the aviation authorities come, they would be satisfied with what we have done and grant us the licence for commercial use of the airport.”

According to NAN, the Bayelsa state government had signed a tentative agreement with Akwa Ibom state government to ensure that the Ibom air ply the airport route, when flights commence.
