Fifty thousand people drawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) have reportedly joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Bayelsa governorship election.
The defectors who pledged their support for Timipre Sylva, governorship candidate of the APC in Bayelsa, were received during a rally in Yenagoa, capital city of Bayelsa, on Thursday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fixed the state’s election for November 11.
Ali Dalori, APC’s deputy national chair (north), was present to receive the defectors to the party.

Victor Isaiah, Nathaniel Sylva, and Ebinyu Turner, former LGA chairs, were part of those received by Dalori.
Speaking at the meeting, Sylva said the defectors should work for the success of the APC and boot out Douye Diri, incumbent governor and PDP member.
The governorship candidate said no amount of intimidation would stop him and the APC from winning the polls.

“No stone will be left unturned to ensure victory at the November poll,” he said.
“No amount of intimidation and desperation by the PDP government in the state can stop the APC from winning the governorship election.”
On his part, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, Gombe governor and chair of the Bayelsa APC campaign council, said the defectors should ensure the party wins the election.
