Bayelsa Queens to face Ghana’s Ampem Dorkoa in CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Bayelsa Queens, Nigeria’s champions, have been drawn against the Ampem Dorkoa Ladies of Ghana in group B of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League (WCL) zonal qualifiers.

The draw, which was conducted on Wednesday, will see the 2022 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions and Ampem Dorkoa rekindle the rivalry between the two West African neighbours on the field of play.

The teams in group A are AS D’Abidjan of Ivory Coast, Police Sports Association of Niger and Espoir FC of Benin Republic.

Group B comprises of Bayelsa Queens, Ampem Dorkoa Ladies, Union Sportive des forces Armees of Burkina Faso and Athleta FC of Togo.

The zonal qualifiers are scheduled to  kickoff on September 13 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

With the seven participating teams split into two groups of three and four, the top two from each group will progress to the last four of the competition.

The winners from the semi-final rounds will then head to the final to compete for the title.

The winner of the title will automatically qualify as the representative of the zone for the finals at the second-ever CAF WCL in Morocco.

Rivers Angels represented Nigeria in the 2021 WAFU B WCL zonal qualifiers. They, however, lost to Ghana’s Hasaacas 3-1 in the final. Both teams went on to represent the zone at the inaugural CAF WCL in Egypt.

Mamelodi Sundowns ladies won the continental club tournament.
