Bayern Munich were on Tuesday crowned Bundesliga champions for an eighth successive season after a 1-0 win at Werder Bremen thanks to a Robert Lewandowski’s solitary goal.

The German giants secured the title with two more games to play in the current league season, holding an unassailable 10-point lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

They have now claimed every Bundesliga title since the 2013/14 season.

Lewandowski scored what proved to be the match winning goal on 43 minutes. The prolific Polish striker chested down Jerome Boateng’s pass before slamming the ball into the net.

The goal was Lewandowski’s 31st strike of the season and it equalled Pierre-Emmerick Aubameyang’s record for Dortmund in 2017, a tally he could surpass with two games still to be played.

The Bavarians, however, finished the match with ten men following the dismissal of Alphonso Davies, their young left wing-back, in the 79th minute for two bookable offenses.

Bayern Munich, the most successful German club, celebrated in an empty stadium donning  red shirts with the number eight inscribed.

It was Bayern’s 30th overall domestic league title. It is also their 29th title since creation of the Bundesliga, one more than other previous winners combined.

They are still in the hunt for a treble however, with a German Cup final coming up next month and also competing in the round-of-16 of the European champions league.
