Being courteous: A requirement for supernatural provision

What we want to look at—at this moment is very crucial on the condition that you want to become great, successful, and you want to access supernatural provision. Over the years, not being courteous has sent people out of job, has robbed them of success in business and has sent destiny-helpers out of people’s lives. They are spiritual they claim, but they do not know how to speak, but one of the evidences of being spiritual is being courteous.

In 1Kings 17:11, the Bible says, “And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, please, bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”  God sends Elijah to Zarephath. Also, God commands the widow to provide for him. Before Elijah shows up, the widow knows he is coming. And when he finally shows up, it does not look as if she is expecting him. Why? It does not look as if she is expecting him because self takes over. When self takes over, obeying God becomes impossible. Till self gives way to the leading of the Holy Spirit, obeying God becomes impossible!

When self takes the place of God, obeying God in a context of giving becomes impossible. And without giving, receiving is not possible, even under the New Testament, covenant! For the umpteenth time, to become a giver, self must always give way to God, love.

Additionally, in this story, Elijah displays a very high level of character when he gets to Zarephath. He does not speak to the woman rudely. He speaks to her politely. Infact, he uses the word, “please.” Elijah is showing us here that a prophet does not have to be rude. Many think prophets are rude by calling. No! We need to understand that being rude shows that one is deficient in character, it is not a sign of being anointed. True prophets are courteous people!

In 1Peter 3:8, the Bible says, “Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another as brothers, be tenderhearted; be courteous.”  And in Acts 27:3, the Bible says, “And the next day, we landed at Sidon. And Julius treated Paul kindly and gave him liberty to go to his friends and receive care.” Also in Acts 28:7, the Bible says, “In that region, there was an estate of the leading citizen of the Island, whose name was Pubilius, who received us and entertained us courteously for three (3) days.” In other words, as believers, the Lord wants us to be tenderhearted and courteous. It does not remove from us when we are courteous. Infact, it adds to us. Let us learn to receive people courteously, because angels do come as humans. Remember, there were people in the Bible—who entertained angels without knowing they were angels.  May you be wise!

In Ruth 2:14-15, the Bible says, “At mealtime Boaz said to her, come over here. Have some bread and dip it in the wine vinegar. When she sat down with the harvesters, he offered her some roasted grain. She ate all she wanted and had some left over. As she got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his men, let her gather among the sheaves and do not reprimand (insult) her.” They were commanded by Boaz to speak kindly and courteously to her. They were not permitted to insult her. I sense that the Lord wants you to start speaking to people with respect, for this will open great doors of opportunities to you. What sends people out of the lives of many believers is not the devil; it is because they do not know how to speak politely.

Many believers speak intensely in tongues, but insult people when they talk to them and they are wondering why they are not moving forward, they claim to be anointed and spiritual though. Kindly know that your breakthroughs will begin to come—when you start speaking to people kindly and respectfully. For the umpteenth time, speaking politely is one of the strong evidences that one if spiritually sound and strong.

The bitter truth is that one of the major reasons many believers are not getting from men what God has given to them is because they do not know how to speak politely. This may be the reason success and supernatural provisions have been far from you, too. On this condition that you will learn how to speak politely, good things of life that appear far away from you right now will start flowing into your life.

Lastly, those who are not courteous cannot keep homes, no matter how handsome or beautiful they are. And no one wants to work with those who are not courteous, even if they are brilliant. Like Elijah, we need to learn how to speak politely to people and we need to learn how to treat people with kindness. This may be the virtue that will connect you to those who will help you in life, business and ministry. Run with this truth and your life will change for the better.
