Ben Bruce wins PDP’s senate ticket

Ben Murray Bruce, Nigeria’s foremost entertainment mogul, on Sunday won the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the 2015 senatorial election in Bayelsa east.

Bruce, who made his name as the brain behind the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant and the owner of Silverbird TV and cinemas, won with 138 votes to beat Anthony Ikoli (SAN) who got 11 votes and Nelson Belief with two votes.

Two aspirants Austin Dressman and Ayebaemi Spiff withdrew from the race for undisclosed reasons while Clever Ikisikpo, a member of the house of representatives, got no vote.

Senator Emmanuel Paulker (Bayelsa central) won in his bid to return to the senate.

However, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa west) lost his re-election bid to the upper legislative chamber to Foster Ogola, the immediate past chairman of Bayelsa State Scholarship Board.

In the election for Bayelsa central, Paulker won with 174 votes; Austin Ogionwon got 17 votes while Ebiundu Komonibo and Torunana James got one vote each.

Ogola scored 69 votes to win the election for Bayelsa west while Ayakeme Whiskey got 27 votes.

Matthew Karimo got 12 votes, Stella Dorgu scored three votes, Frank Akpoebi got two votes while Lokpobiri scored zero vote.
