Benue perm sec, wife, children die in fire outbreak

Seker Akaa, acting permanent secretary at the ministry of science and technology in Benue, alongside his wife and two children lost their lives in a fire incident on Monday.

Sewuese Anene, Benue police spokesman, confirmed the tragic incident, saying the fire started around 2:40am at the residence of the deceased at Kwarafa Quaters, Makurdi, the state capital.

Three other flats were also burnt including that of Daniel Unongo, chaplain of Benue government house and senior special assistant on religion to Samuel Ortom, the state governor

Anene said Akaa, his pregnant wife, Linda, two children; Sender and Tertsegh Akaa, all occupants of flat 1 were burnt to death during the fire disaster.

She added that the remains of the family have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi mortuary.

According to her, the cause of the fire accident was yet to be known, but “investigation into the matter had already commenced”.
