Benue police ‘arrest’ suspected kidnappers of Indian

The police say they have arrested a gang of criminals who allegedly kidnapped an Indian national in Benue state.

Don Awunah, police spokesman, said this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said that the suspects were involved in “coordinated” crimes in Benue state, and in neighbouring states.

“In continuation of the nationwide coordinated operations against violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and the like, the inspector-general of police, (IGP) Ibrahim Idris deployed intelligent response team (IRT) to Benue state to tackle and resolve cases of kidnapping in the state, using citizen support and deployment of technical platforms,” he said.

“The intelligent response team (IRT) swung into action, trailed and arrested the following suspects: Terna Lorlu aka Rocker ‘M’ 28 years – gang leader, Ternenger Terwase aka Bishop ‘M’ 29 years, Terungwa Abasuwa aka Bobby ‘M’ 27 years and Oryina Bosua aka Man’U ‘M’ 34 years.

“During interrogation, they confessed to be behind several kidnappings and armed robbery attacks on innocent people in Benue state including the kidnap of an Indian expatriate, the kidnap of one Mr Charles, a businessman at Adikpo, Kwande LGA and the kidnap of a prominent chief Tsegba in Gboko and the collection of a ransom of N5m ransom paid to them before his release. “

Awunah also said that the suspects confessed to the kidnapping of several lecturers and businessmen at the College of Education, Katsina Ala, and other neighbouring towns.

“However, investigation is being intensified to arrest other members of the gang still at large. All suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of the investigation,” he added.
