Betty Akeredolu, Sanwo-Olu’s wife in attendance as Ohanaeze Ndigbo inaugurates new executives in Lagos

The Lagos state chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Igbo socio-cultural group, has inaugurated its new executive members.

The event which took place at the Muson Centre in Lagos, on Saturday, had in attendance Betty Akeredolu, wife of the Ondo state governor; Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of the governor of Lagos state; Okey Emuchey, secretary-general of the organisation, and other leaders of the organisation across the country and in diaspora.

Speaking at the event, Sunday Ossai, the new president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos, said he would reposition the organisation to serve the interest of Igbos in the state and foster a good relationship with the government.

He said although the Lagos chapter of Ndigbo has been battered and diminished, he would work assiduously to unite the Igbo in the state and urge them to support the state government.

Ossai said he has set up an important committee that will reposition and redirect the focus of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the state in line with his desire to have a remarkable and indelible legacy for prospective administration.

He added that he would initiate ideas through which Igbos will be fully engaged in the economic development of Lagos state and beyond.

In his remark, Joe Igbokwe, special adviser to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos state governor, asked Igbos in the state to forget the past and be united so that they can collectively work for the interest of the organisation.

Also speaking, George Obiozor, the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, represented by Emuchey, urged the Igbo in the state to be good ambassadors of the organisation by living in peace and harmony with the host community.

He also urged them to always give unalloyed loyalty to the state government and the leaders in the community.

In his speech, Charles Ugonmuo, the chairman of the event, urged the Igbo in the state to be united and maintain peace, adding that as the grandpatron of the organisation, he would do everything to bring peace to the organisation in Lagos.

“Let the bickering stop. We shall have meetings with all of you and we seek God’s intervention in the affairs of the organisation,” Ugonmuo said.
