Gina Mccarthy, the White House national climate adviser, says the administration of President Joe Biden is committed to tackling climate crisis in order to grow the US economy.

She noted that the administration has come up with a $2 trillion American jobs plan to invest in clean energy.

Speaking during a briefing of the US Foreign Press Centers’ virtual reporting tour on the climate crisis, Mccarthy stated that the government is looking into innovation trends that can help farmers deploy smart technology and tools to achieve the next frontier of carbon innovation.

“So today is also a product of a government-wide assessment that looked, sector by sector, at how we can address the challenge of climate change and make the success that we’re looking for. Those sectors are electricity and transportation, which I think in every country represents some of the biggest challenges that we face, buildings, industry, and lands and oceans which are natural solutions that we’d like to employ,” Mccarthy said.

“And we looked at, in every one of these sectors, what kind already-existing, cost-effective clean technologies and products are already being deployed already for deployment. And there are many, which is what brings us hope for the future. And we also looked at innovation trends, and that will allow us to look at the biggest opportunities we have to actually win that clean energy future.

“So over the past hundred days, the first hundred days of this administration, we met with and listened to constituents all across the country in order to be prepared to have a plan in place on Earth Day and to be able to identify the kind of opportunities we have to deliver a strong NDC.

“And in effect, when we looked at these sectors, we saw a variety of different pathways across all of them, and using policy levers across the federal, state, and local levels that would really deliver a growing economy and reduce our emissions consistent with the NDC goal of 50 to 52 percent. And I think that’s just consistent with President Biden’s commitment from day one that he saw that tackling the climate crisis presented an important and necessary opportunity to grow our economy.

“We’re talking about our automakers building modern, efficient electric vehicles and charging infrastructure that we’re going to support through the American Jobs Plan. We’re talking about engineers and construction workers expanding carbon capture and also investing in the innovation opportunities with green hydrogen so we can forge cleaner steel and cement.”

Mccarthy added that there are incoming regulations that will directly regulate greenhouse gas emissions primarily from the transportation sector.
