The International Association of Political Consultants (IAPC) says Joe Biden’s message of unity, following his swearing-in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday, struck the right tone for America’s progress.
Biden was sworn in at an inauguration ceremony held in Washington DC.
Kamala Harris was also sworn in as the vice-president, becoming the first woman and the first African-American to occupy the position.
Donald Trump, the outgoing president who was absent from the inauguration, departed the White House earlier on Wednesday, without acknowledging Biden’s victory.

In his inaugural speech, Biden preached the message of hope, love and unity, and pledged to unite America, which he said was “deeply divided”.
In a statement on Thursday, Mauricio de Vengoechea, president of IAPC, said Biden’s inauguration “struck the right tone” for the American people.
He said the US has experienced division in the past four years, but Biden’s promise of uniting the country will “cool political temperatures”.

“Yesterday’s inauguration of President Joseph R. Biden as the 46th president of the United States struck the right tone for an American nation that has experienced such tremendous division during the past four years and especially during the past two weeks’ turmoil,” he said.
“By focusing his remarks on unity, decency and renewing America, President Biden’s call to ‘stop the shouting and lower the temperature’ will hopefully help cool political temperatures in Washington, D.C.
“The peaceful transition of power is a hallmark of elections around the world. The events of January 6 highlighted that even in America, one of the world’s most stable democracies, it is fragile and must be protected.”
