BitPsea to hold forex summit ahead of elections

BitPesa, a cross-border payments platform and treasury solution, has pledged to assist Nigerian importers, exporters and macro small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs), in protecting their businesses from losses that stem from foreign exchange (FX) exposure.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company said key operators in the SMEs value-chains, including importers and exporters are expected to attend its maiden future of finance executive forum in Lagos slated for 29th of this month.

It said the programme is solely on growing their businesses, de-risking business operations and navigating volatility in terms of trade.

It explained that definitely the upcoming elections are posers for SMEs operators and others because it will not only affect their macroeconomic business ecosystem, but also, more microeconomic concerns for them at the period.

The firm said having been in Nigeria since 2015, and completed thousands of transactions within and outside Africa, it has helped SME businesses access foreign currencies and expand their operations with ease.

It explained that renowned financial experts are expected to discuss on the topic, titled: “Beating the volatility: Preparing for the election economy”,’where how SMEs, importers and exporters could navigate the uncertainty about the Naira.

The statement said the forum will focus on deconstruct the election economy, and teach participants how to de-risk their business operations and navigate the ups and downs.

BitPesa’s head of treasury, Michael Nderitu, who has built FX desks for multiple institutions, will be moderating the event, while Elizabeth Rossiello, CEO and Founder of BitPesa, World Economic Forum Tech Pioneer and Endeavor Entrepreneur, will be speaking on general trends and regulation in the FX market.

Before BitPesa, Elizabeth has been an advocate in Africa and Europe for monetary policy autonomy, giving training to regulators focused on risk management for independence.

She has also advised the CBN on policies and whitepapers across topics, including block chain.
