Bobbi Kristina’s ventilation tube removed

Bobbi Kristina Brown, ailing heiress and only daughter of late singing sensation, Whitney Houston, has had her ventilation tube removed but may be on life support for months.

The 21-year-old, who has been on life support for about three weeks after she was discovered unresponsive in her home bath tub, is currently receiving treatment at Emory University Hospital.

According to CNN’s sources close to the family, doctors have removed her breathing tube, but would now be ventilated through a hole in her throat.

This has been interpreted in some quarters as a plan to take Kristina off life support as earlier revealed and then denied by the family, but CNN medical correspondent has a different opinion.

Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, said the removal of the ventilation tube and use of throat ventilation meant she would be on ventilation for months.

“This is an indication that the patient will need this for weeks and months to come, as opposed to hours and days,” he said, adding that the move lowers the risk of infection and is standard procedure.

Kristina remains in the medically induced coma at Emory University Hospital, the hospital famous for treating Ebola victim, Kent Brantly, though doctors are said to be attempting to slowly lift her coma.

Nick Gordon, her foster brother and partner who found her unresponsive, and his friend, have been barred from seeing her, as the police is treating her case as criminal investigation.

Whitney Houston, Kristina’s mother, died in 2012 after being found in a similar bathtub situation a few hours before the 2012 pre-Grammy Awards party.
