Bobi Wine: I’ve been under house arrest for 5 days… US envoy blocked from seeing me

Robert Ssentamu, presidential candidate of the National Unity Platform (NUP), better known as Bobi Wine, says he and his wife have been under house arrest for the past five days.

In a tweet on Monday, the politician-cum-singer said soldiers prevented the US ambassador to the country from seeing him in his house earlier in the day.

“This afternoon, the US Ambassador to Uganda made an effort to visit me but was turned away from my gate by the soldiers who have held me and my wife captive for the past five days,” he wrote.

Prior to the January 14, 2021 presidential election, he had cried out on several occasions over what he described as threat to his life and that of his campaign team by security agencies.

Museveni, who has so far spent 35 years as president of the East African country, was declared winner of the election but Bobi Wine rejected the results.

The Ugandan authorities had shut down the internet 48 hours to the controversial election but internet access was restored two days after Museveni was declared winner of the election.
