Geidam, the headquarters town of Geidam local government area (LGA) of Yobe state, has been attacked by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Sources said the insurgents had been around the community since 2pm on Wednesday, and started shooting at about 6pm.
Many houses, according to sources, were set ablaze as residents ran into the bush.
Although troops from the Nigerian army and the air force arrived the area, sources said the insurgents were still shooting as of 8pm.
