Boko Haram captures another town in Adamawa

Barely 24 hours after seizing Chibok in Borno state, Boko Haram insurgents have captured yet another town in Adamawa.

The latest town to have come under the control of the insurgents is Hong in Hong local government area of the state.

The militants were said to have overpowered members of the civilian JTF, a local security outfit known to be collaborating with security agencies to combat insurgency in the northeast.

They reportedly burnt down a police station ‎and killed several persons during the attack.

Aliyu Idi Hong, a former top government official who is a native of the town, confirmed the attack to journalists.

He said though efforts were being made to rescue the town, the militants were still in full control.

The sect has seized nearly 20 communities in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, subjecting residents to hardship and in most cases operating strict sharia laws.

Attempts of security agents to recapture territories under Boko Haram have suffered setback, as the insurgents relocate to vulnerable communities whenever they are chased out of any area.

On Thursday, Kenneth Minmah, the chief of army staff, assured Nigerians that all the territories under Boko Haram would soon be reclaimed.

“I want to continue to rekindle the confidence of Nigerians who have suffered the pains of this insurgency that the Nigerian army will continue to do its best and strive to win this war and reclaim the lost territories,” he said.
