Boko Haram ‘kills 30 in Borno’

Gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram about 4am on Wednesday attacked Shawa village in Damboa Local Government of Borno State, killing 30 persons.

The gunmen, who shot sporadically and razed houses, attacked the villagers while they were asleep, Trentonline reported.

Witnesses say the marauders chanted “Allahu akbar”, which means “God is great,” while they were carrying out the attack.

Another witness said: “It was at about 4am when we began to hear the sounds of vehicles; then they were followed by the shooting of guns. We immediately knew we were in trouble.”

An official spokesman of the Nigerian Vigilance Group, Mohammed Gava, who confirmed the attack, said that the gunmen also looted the village, making off with goats and rams.

He added: “Our men in Damboa had visited the village in the morning and reported to us that the village, which is close to Kilakisa community along Biu-Maiduguri highway, had been deserted; and they had to help gather the corpses for burial.”

The attack is coming a day after over 100 persons were killed in a twin bomb blast in Jos.
