Boko Haram kills 45 in fresh attack

Despite the state of emergency declared to restore normalcy to the troubled north-east part of the country, the Boko Haram sect has continued to unleash terror.

In an attack that claimed about 45 lives in Barderi, a village near the University of Maiduguri, the sect reportedly opened fire on unsuspecting villagers after succeeding in confusing them they were preachers.

According to the BBC, those who survived the attack on Wednesday night said they assembled innocently to listen to the insurgents without knowing that they had sinister motive.

There have been different instances when the sect carried out attacks through disguise.

A resident told TheCable that the activities of Boko Haram have thrived because there are no enough security personnel on ground.

“There are many villages where we don’t have soldiers. At times, we hear of attacks before they happen and we report to the soldiers who either respond late or do not come at all,” he said.

“Boko Haram just goes to a village and attack people. It is possible that they have informants who tell them of the movement of soldiers. So they just get to the village kill people and burn their property.”

Some reports said hundreds of people were on Wednesday killed when insurgents who pretended to be soldiers attacked three villages.
