Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, on Thursday, held a meeting with Usman Baba, the inspector-general of police (IGP), in Abuja.

Raheem, a Lagos-based lawyer, was shot dead in an incident involving a police officer, now identified as Drambi Vandi, around the Ajah axis of Lagos state on Christmas day.

The lawyer was said to be pregnant with twins at the time of her death.

In a statement, the governor said there is a need for a “transparent investigation” into the circumstances leading to the death of Raheem.

“I visited IGP Usman Baba Alkali at the Police HQ, Abuja where we discussed security for Lagosians as we go into the new year as well as the recent death of Bolanle Raheem. I stressed the need for transparent investigation and prosecution of the culprit(s),” he said.

“The outcome of the investigation of the case is very important to the State. Due process must be followed in ensuring justice for the victim and her family.”

Vandi is currently in detention, while the IGP has recommended that he be suspended, pending the outcome of the investigation into the incident.
