Team Nigeria won two bronze medals on Tuesday in the men and women wrestling bouts at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Sinivie Boltic defeated New Zealand’s Marcus Carney in the men’s 125kg freestyle wrestling by a massive 11-0 margin, while in the women’s event, Blessing Onyebuchi won the 75kg freestyle bout against Cameroon’s Annabel Ali to bag the bronze same evening.
Onyebuchi was the favourite going into the fight, but she suffered a knee ligament injury ahead of the contest. She fought on despite the coaches’ desire for her to stop due to the discomfort she was feeling.
Her Cameroon opponent regularly aimed at Onyebuchi’s troubled knee but she struggled to an 8-1 win.
