A suicide bomber struck at a checkpoint of  the civilian joint task force (JTF) in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, around 12:10 pm on Monday.

A source told TheCable that the incident occurred around Sector 6 area of the town.

“I don’t have details of the attack but certainly there would be casualties because of the location it happened at,” he said.

Witnesses told Reuters that one member of the local vigilante outfit was killed and three persons sustained injuries in the attack.

A JTF member at the scene said after passengers had left the bus, the driver drove forward to another inspection point where he detonated the bomb.

Maiduguri has come under repeated attacks from Boko Haram, which has resorted mainly to suicide bomb attacks since Muhammadu Buhari became president.
