About eight officers of the Borno state police command lost their lives in an attack in the Damboa local government area of the state on Monday night.
A security source, who confirmed the incident to TheCable, said it occurred around 6:30pm.
He said the victims had left Maiduguri, capital of the state, to the area with some officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to rectify some electrical faults.
He said they had accomplished their assignment and were returning to Maiduguri when the incident happened.

“Our men and some officials of PHCN left Maiduguri this afternoon in a convoy of five cars,” he said.
“They went to rectify some electrical issues because our light supply comes from Gomer and it passes through Damboa.
“They were on their way back when they ran into bomb set by Boko Haram.

“I am sure they saw them when they were going and set the trap. I can’t tell of the PHCN people but eight of our officers were killed in that attack.”
The Borno state police PRO did not respond to calls and text messages.
