The  Borno state government has established small claims courts to facilitate the speedy resolution of some cases in magistrate courts.

Babagana Mustapha, chief registrar of Borno high court, spoke on Monday in an interview with NAN in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno.

Mustapha said the special courts are located in Bolori and Wulari wards in Maiduguri.

“The court is a special court to promote easy access to informal, inexpensive and speedy resolutions of liquidated money demand in magistrate courts,” he said.

“In line with article 12 (2) of the practice direction of the court, all magistrates shall strive to finalise cases within 60 working days.”

The registrar added that the courts are not to entertain any debt-related cases above  N1 million.

He said the success of the two new courts would determine whether it would be appropriate to open more of their kind throughout the state.
