Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno state, plans to ban the movement of heavy-duty trucks in the Maiduguri city centre following an accident that claimed the lives of three graduands.
Three were killed in Maiduguri after a bus full of Borno State University students celebrating their graduation crashed into a truck.
The accident occurred on Wednesday around 5:15 pm in the Moranti suburb along the Maiduguri/Damaturu highway.
It resulted in many students sustaining various degrees of injuries.

The victims were rushed to the Umaru Shehu Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri where they are receiving medical attention.
NAN reports that Dauda Iliya, the special adviser to the governor on media, said the state would enforce a ban on trailers and other heavy vehicles from accessing the city centre to minimise future accidents.
He quoted the governor as saying the Borno ministry of works has been instructed to complete an ongoing trailer park project.

“Once operational, trailers will no longer be permitted into the city centre, a move aimed at reducing intra-city road accidents within the metropolis,” he added.
Iliya said Zulum has guaranteed that the state would cover all medical expenses for the injured students receiving treatment.
The governor also pledged to personally visit the victims in the hospital to sympathise with them and their families.
