It was a win-lose experience for Team Nigeria in Saturday’s boxing bouts at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In the men’s light welter (64kg) round-of-32, Waheed Shogbamu defeated Toaua Bangke of Kiribati 3-0 in a unanimous decision by the three judges, who scored the fight 30-27 each in favour of the Nigerian.
Earlier in the day, Oto Joseph was not that lucky, as he lost to Michael Alexander of Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 in the men’s light (60kg) round-of-32 bout.
Nigeria recorded two victories in Friday’s fights, Efe Ajagba out-punching Uaina Fa of Tonga in men’s super-heavyweight and Kehinde Ademuyiwa also triumphing over Souleymanou Kidunda of Tanzania in the welterweight category.
