Brazilian presidential candidate dies in plane crash

Eduardo Campos, a candidate contesting for the office of the president under the platform of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) in Brazil was on Wednesday involved in a plane crash alongside nine other person that were on board.

The BBC reports that there were no survivors in the accident, which occurred at a residential area in the port city of Santos, in Brazil’s Sao Paulo state.

The Cessna 560XL plane which had been frequently used by Campos had taken off from Rio de Janeiro’s domestic airport and was heading to the city of Guaruja, near Santos.

The Brazilian Air Force said bad weather was the cause of the accident.

A police spokeswoman told the AFP news agency that there were “fatalities but we still do not have a number confirmed”.

Plane crashes are becoming rampant these days. On Tuesday, an aircraft conveying some people fleeing the troubled region in Iraq crashed, killing several persons.

About 48 persons also lost their lives from a plane crash which happened at Taiwan recently.
