22 killed, as 2 girl-bombers hit Maiduguri market

Two female suicide bombers killed an unspecified number of people at a crowded fish market in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, on Monday.

A security source confirmed the attack to TheCable but could not give details.

“The attack happened around 4pm while the market was still busy but I don’t have details,” he said.

A witness, who put the death toll at 22, told the BBC Hausa service that the bombers disguised as beggars.

“I have counted 22 bodies but soldiers have now arrived and cordoned off the area,” he said.

Since the beginning of Ramadan, this is the first time that the city, which has come under repeated attacks from suspected Boko Haram insurgents, would experience such attack.
