Saraki asks appeal court to stop his arrest

The court of appeal sitting in Abuja has been asked to grant a stay of execution over the arrest warrant issued against Senate President Bukola Saraki by the code of conduct tribunal (CCT).

The notice of appeal was filed on Monday morning by Saraki’s lawyers.

The tribunal had issued the warrant on Friday after Saraki failed to honour its summons on the basis of a motion he had filed at the Abuja high court over his trial for alleged false declaration of assets.

Saraki’s lawyers filed the notice of appeal and record of proceedings at the CCT at the court of appeal early Monday, and the bailiff served CCT a copy thereafter.

The court of appeal is expected to make a pronouncement after listening to both sides.

Meanwhile, proceedings continued on Monday at the tribunal as well as the high court where Saraki initially filed a motion asking the court to stop the tribunal from putting him on trial.
