Boko Haram frees two abducted women

Boko Haram has released two women abducted on a farm on October 16, BBC World Radio Service reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the women were abducted in Askira Uba, Borno state, one day after the ceasefire deal announced by the government.

Speaking on the development, Obiageli Ezekwesili, former minister of education, said: “This was a case of an abduction that happened about a week ago. Some members of the Chibok community that are part of the #BringBackOurGirls group [one pictured], two of their nieces were abducted and now they have got news that they have been released.

“They are not part of the original 219 Chibok girls. They went to the farm and got abducted.”

Also speaking, Comfort, a niece of one of the kidnapped women, said: “On the 16 of this month, Mary a 36-year-old mother of seven was abducted on the farm with her mate. We got the news that Thursday evening that she was abducted.

“Just this morning I got a text that she had been released, and I called her mother and she said it was true that she was now at home.”

Pogu Bitrus, the national chairman of the Chibok Development Association, had told TheCable on Monday that the community was enthusiastically expecting the release of the abducted girls.

And hours after, Aminu Wali, the minister of foreign affairs, assured the media that negotiations with Boko haram were ongoing and a lot of progress would be made.
