Boko Haram kidnaps 80 in Cameroon

Boko Haram militants have kidnapped about 80 people in northern Cameroon, Reuters is reporting.

According to the news agency, most of those kidnapped in the cross border raid on Sunday were children.

The kidnapping is considered one of the largest on Cameroonian soil since the abduction of 27 Cameroonians by Boko Haram last year.

“According to our initial information, around 30 adults, most of them herders, and 50 young girls and boys aged between 10 and 15 years were abducted,” a senior army officer deployed to northern Cameroon told Reuters.

However, the BBC is reporting that at least 60 people were kidnapped and several people killed in the latest Boko Haram attack on Cameroon.

Boko Haram, a terror group, is known for indiscriminate killings and mass abductions.

On April 14, 2014 it kidnapped more than 250 schoolgirls at Chibok, Borno state, sparking international outrage.
