’47 killed, 79 injured’ in blast at Yobe school

A suicide bomb blast at Government Comprehensive Science Secondary School, Potiskum, Yobe state, has resulted in the death of “many pupils of the school”.

According to the Yobe state police command, the suicide bomber “disguised as a student and blew self up at the assembly ground”, killing 47 people and injuring 79.

Earlier, a source who spoke with TheCable said the blast occurred few minutes after 7am.

“The blast killed so many people,” he said repeatedly. “So many people died.”

Nansak Chegwam, public relations officer of the Police in the state, had confirmed the attack to NAN, saying: “We have just received the report but the details are not yet available because it happened just this morning.”

A resident of Potiskum said he was at the Potiskum General Hospital and has sighted “many dead bodies deposited” at the morgue.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians have thronged the hospital in search of their wards.

Monday’s attack occurred exactly one week after a suicide bomber detonated a bomb amidst a crowd of Shi’a Islamic movement followers in Potiskum, killing at least 23 people.
