After 57 days in Nigeria, Buhari returns to London indefinitely

President Muhammadu Buhari will be travelling to London on Sunday night for an indefinite medical follow-up.

This is coming 57 days after the president returned to the country after a 49-day medical vacation in London.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, said the length of Buhari’s stay will be determined by his doctors.

“President Muhammadu Buhari proceeds to London tonight for follow-up medical consultation with his doctors,” Adesina said in a statement.

“He had planned to leave Sunday afternoon, but decided to tarry a bit, due to the arrival of 82 Chibok girls who arrived Abuja earlier in the day.

“The president wishes to assure all Nigerians that there is no cause for worry. He is very grateful for the prayers and good wishes of the people, and hopes they would continue to pray for the peace and unity of the nation.”

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will resume in acting capacity as president, as long as Buhari is away, Adesina added.

“The length of the president’s stay in London will be determined by the doctors. Government will continue to function normally under the able leadership of the vice-president,” he said.

“President Buhari has transmitted letters about the trip to the senate and the house of representatives, in compliance with section 145 (1) of the 1999 constitution.”

When he returned to the country on March 10, Buhari told Nigerians that he would make a follow-up trip in some weeks.

“There may be need to have further follow-ups within some weeks,” he had said.

  1. I now understand why the do or die effort put into winning the election. The state money is being spent and the presidential jet is being flown, with retinue of relatives in and out of the UK,at tax payers cost even fuel is not paid for all on tax payers money

  2. End of game. Thank God that he finally took the decision to stopped all the hide and see drama emanating from Aso-Rock.

  3. Your comment.. wishing Mr. president soonest recovery.A very sick PMB is far better than Hale and hearty president under whose watch the country was looted with reckless abandon and thereby consigned Nigeria to unavoidable recession.

  4. Truth be told an acting president is an acting president he wont be able to move as swift as a substantive president so Buhari should resign out-rightly and go and take care of himself

  5. Even if Allah made a decision on you, the true colour of faithful Northern leadership had been printed in the heart of Nigerians. No single soul was missed in our great Country Nigeria.
May Allah reward greatly in here after, and i wish you quick recovery amin.

  6. Your comment.. Is there any constitutional limitation to an acting president to act substantially? if yes let’s see it and if no then it’s left to Osinbajo to stamp his authority as he has been empowered by the Constitution.
