Buhari MAY ban hijabs ‘if bombings continue’

President Muhammadu Buhari says there is a possibility that his administration will ban the wearing of hijab in public places, in view of its widespread use in suicide bombing.

Buhari said this on Wednesday while responding to a question on the Islamic apparel during his inaugural presidential media chat.

Having spoken on the clash between the army and the Shi’ia sect earlier in the month in Kaduna, Buhari was asked if he would go the way of countries that have banned the use of hijab as part of measures to tackle terrorism.

Buhari answered first by stating the security steps taken by the government in deploying security personnel with detectors at public places, including markets and motor parks.

“So banning Hijab is not an option?” one of his interviewers interjected him.

Then the president answered: ”No, banning hijab is not enough. But hijab will be banned if these [suicide bombings] continue.

”It just has to be done because it’s for the safety of people generally, because the indoctrination they go through to kill themselves causes the aftermath.

”If people don’t mind losing their lives, then it’s extremely serious.”
