Corpse of missing general found in a well

The remains of Muhammed Alkali, the retired army general, who was declared missing on September 3, have been found in an abandoned well in Guchwet, Shen of Jos south local government area of Plateau state.

A source disclosed this to TheCable, saying the military authorities would soon make it public.

Umar Mohammed, leader of the operation search and rescue, later told reporters that plans were in place for a befitting burial for the deceased en route Bauchi state from Jos.

Umar said with the recovery of the body, the panel was left with ensuring that those declared wanted in connection with the crime were brought to book.

“The COAS gave us three terms of reference, to get the missing senior officer dead or alive, to recover his car and to ensure that those who committed the crime were punished,” he told reporters.

“We have today fulfilled the second condition, we will not rest until we meet the third.

“We want to assure those that are on the run to know that we are on their trail and we must get them.”

The corpse of the missing general was moved into an ambulance after a military parade by his course mates.

On Friday, B. A. Akinruluyo, general officer commanding, 3 division, Rukuba barracks, had said soldiers located a grave where Alkali was initially buried.

Akinruluyo said some of the suspects arrested in connection with the incident confessed that the body of the deceased was buried in a place known as “No Man’s Land” Dura-Du community in Plateau.

He said those behind the dastardly act later exhumed the corpse and took it to an unknown place.

Alkali was the immediate past chief of administration of the Nigerian Army.

The deceased was killed few days after he had retired from the army where served for 35 years.
