Seriake Dickson, governor of Bayelsa state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is favourite to win the Bayelsa governorship election.
After the first two days of voting on December 5 and 6, 2015, Dickson had polled 105,748 votes ahead of Timipre Sylva, his closest challenger and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had garnered 71,794 votes.
With results from seven of the eight local governments in the state already declared, Sylva was trailing Dickson by 33,954 votes, but there were 120,827 registered voters in Southern Ijaw – the pending local government where elections held on Saturday, in addition with a few other wards where results were cancelled.
In Saturday’s supplementary election, Dickson continued from where he stopped on December 6, 2015, again leading Sylva by more than 2,000 votes after announcement of results from four local governments very early on Sunday.

When the exercise resumed on Sunday afternoon, he further extended the lead. And by Sunday evening when results from Southern Ijaw were added, Dickson had polled a total of 29,574 votes in the supplementary election, while Slyva had 14,258 votes.
INEC is currently collating the results ahead of the official announcement of the winner.
