Dogara’s allies shun APC’s election for speaker

The Yakubu Dogara camp has staged a walkout on the internal election that the All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted for candidates for the leadership of the 8th national assembly on Saturday.

The party had earlier reached an agreement with the lawmakers-elect to abide by its choice of candidates.

Abdulmumuni Jibrin, who led the camp of lawmakers-elect loyal to Dogara (pictured), described the election as an ambush.

Despite the walkout of the lawmakers-elect who are about 25, the elec‎tion is still holding at the International Conference ‎Centre, Abuja.

Mohammed Monguno (Borno) was nominated unopposed for deputy speaker, after Bukar Lawan (Yobe) stood down for him.

The election is still in progress.
