The Yakubu Dogara camp has staged a walkout on the internal election that the All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted for candidates for the leadership of the 8th national assembly on Saturday.
The party had earlier reached an agreement with the lawmakers-elect to abide by its choice of candidates.
Abdulmumuni Jibrin, who led the camp of lawmakers-elect loyal to Dogara (pictured), described the election as an ambush.
Despite the walkout of the lawmakers-elect who are about 25, the election is still holding at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Femi Gbajabiamila (Lagos) was nominated for speaker just as Dogara was nominated for the same position, despite his absence.
Mohammed Monguno (Borno) was nominated unopposed for deputy speaker, after Bukar Lawan (Yobe) stood down for him.
The election is still in progress.
